音樂不只為娛樂,音樂可以啟動革命、翻轉世界。「大聲唱自由」從台灣出發,走向世界的角落,看見、聽見不同時代、不同文化背景的青年,以歌樂找尋土地、語言、身份的根源。透過吟唱,傳遞信念,反抗壓迫與不公義。

 

Beyond entertainment, music is capable of inspiring revolution and meaningful change. From Taiwan to the remote Arctic, these films explore how generations of youth all over the world use music and art to establish connections with their homeland, reinforce their cultural identities and fight against against oppression and injustice.

如果說「搖滾樂可以改變世界」,那麼格陵蘭樂團Sumé徹底地實踐了這句話,他們的音樂騷動了在丹麥統治下噤聲的格陵蘭人,促使格陵蘭逐步走向獨立之路。崛起於1973年的哥本哈根,Sumé樂團在語言及身份仍被壓抑的年代,大膽以格陵蘭語唱作,並以歌詞挑戰殖民政權,成為格陵蘭革命搖滾的先驅。本片紀錄了Sumé的崛起,他們如何透過音樂表達政治態度,撼醒同時代的格陵蘭青年,並驅動了格陵蘭人獨立的自覺。


Sumé團員雖在1977年結束丹麥學習生涯後解散,他們的聲音、樂風與態度,卻被一代又一代的格陵蘭搖滾樂團所承襲。影片使用大量殖民者角度所拍攝的歷史畫面,對照Sumé如利劍的歌詞,格陵蘭人被統治、同化兩個世紀的沈痛,流動在獨特的影像風格、聲音設計與精準的訪談中。這部影片也讓格陵蘭電影首度走上國際,受邀許多國際影展,並入選2015年柏林影展電影大觀(Panorama)單元。

After more than 200 years of Danish rule, the arctic territory of Greenland experienced a cultural and political awakening in the early 1970s, prompted in part by a rock n' roll band. Sumé, the first rock group to sing in Greenlandic, was formed by two young men who left home to study in Copenhagen. Charismatic lead singer Malik Høegh's poetic musings in his native tongue were considered provocative for their anti-colonial messages, and Sumé's music became the soundtrack for early protest movements against the Danish government. The band's cult status helped influence later generations of younger rock musicians, who followed suit by also singing in Greenlandic. Sumé co-founder and guitarist Per Berthelsen eventually went on to serve in parliament as Greenland gained autonomy from Denmark.

《如影而行》的主角鍾喬,是一位年過六十的劇場人,在三十而立的年輕歲月,進入人間雜誌,成為一位記者,以文字報導底層人民的生活現場,甚而投身地方環保抗爭運動⋯⋯這份經歷,像一個錨點,定調了他大半人生的左翼視野與生命情懷。

 

本片嘗試用三年的紀錄,理解他三十年的心路歷程。尤其是台灣社會邁向高度資本主義化後,他以左派文化人的姿態,對此提出批判的同時,又必須找到與之共存的方式。這讓他落入現實與理想的夾縫中,像一個身軀佝僂的影子,抵抗著理想難伸的內在沉淪,也抵抗著持續扭曲的外在世界。
 

Advancing Like a Shadow is a profile of the 60-year-old Hakka dramatist and former journalist Chung Chao, who is among a generation of social activists that deeply influenced Taiwan’s now-vibrant democracy. Through interviews and historical footage, this film looks at Chung’s life over the past 30 years, from when he started as a writer to his work in theater today . One aspect of the film is Chung’s struggle to reconcile his personal beliefs with the achievements of the 1980s student pro-democracy movement in Taiwan. As the film’s director Huang Rong-ru writes, “As Taiwan thoroughly embraced capitalism in the 1980s and 90s, Chung found himself criticizing this direction as a left-wing cultural figure; at the same time, he had to learn to co-exist with the new reality. This caused him to fall into a crack. Like the shadow of a crooked body, he had to fight the notion within that his ideals were falling into depravity. Then he had to fight an ever-twisted world encroaching from the outside.”

挪威海岸風暴音樂節(Riddu Riddu Festival),源自海岸薩米人對政府長期以來壓制、同化薩米族的反動與省思:「為什麼政府要奪走我們的語言?為什麼我們要隱藏自己身份和文化,以薩米族為恥?」於是,三位年輕人創辦了這個音樂節,成為挪威原住民族薩米人(Sámi)的年度盛事,讓他們重新建立身份認同,凝聚與發聲的起點。

 

 正當音樂節踏入二十週年,來自世界各地的樂迷聚集在這個北極圈山間小村莊,藍天綠地、營火、帳篷、日夜不停的音樂會、放映、深度座談⋯⋯導演訪問挪威文化部部長和歷任音樂節領袖,分享音樂節所重視的核心精神:多元文化、寛容與接納;拍攝期間,挪威的另一端卻毫無預警地發生挪威二戰後的最大規模襲擊:一名挪威人在奧斯陸引發爆炸再前往 Utoya 島街頭開槍,殺死77人。對於這群深信平等價值的組織者和參加者,事件會帶來什麼衝擊?屠殺過後,此音樂節在多元文化的社會實踐層面上將扮演更重要的角色?

 

This documentary is about the annual Riddu Riddu Festival, which was started in Norway in 1991 by a group of Sami people, an indigenous group spread across northern Scandinavia. The festival was started to celebrate and re-assert Sami culture, and to recognize its struggle to overcome problems resulting from colonial policies that included language suppression, residential schools and forced sterilization of women. This film was commissioned to celebrate the festival's 20th anniversary in 2011, during which several attacks by a right-wing extremist were carried out in Oslo and on the island of Utoya and resulted in 77 deaths. These shocking and unexpected events provide the emotional backdrop for Riddu Riddu participants depicted in the film, who reflect on their beliefs in diversity and equality and the fragile state of multi-culturalism in Norway.

Mariachi是墨西哥重要的民間音樂傳統,但美麗的民歌卻被男性樂人主宰。女性Mariachi樂人必須挑戰男性獨佔的有形及無形的傳統空間,在性別戰爭中抗爭,才能在墨西哥市的廣場取得屬於她們的演出空間。導演Doris Dorrie跟隨著不同世代的女性Mariachi樂人,進出她們台上與台下的人生,在工作、母職、家務之間輪轉,同時在街頭放聲演唱經典,與男性Mariachi樂人互別苗頭。 

 

In the macho world of Mariachi music, very few women can hold their own. Just like the songs they play, this film is a snapshot of love, life, death and the things in between. Mariachi is an essential part of Mexican culture. It’s more than just music; it's a lifestyle that views the world from a macho perspective. The business is tough and women are seldom appreciated in this strictly male domain. Nevertheless, a handful of female musicians choose to be Mariachi. Against the backdrop of the folky 'Día de los Muertes' celebrations, director Doris Dörrie accompanies the musicians to their performances on the streets of Mexico and throughout their daily lives. When the Mariachi women sing about death, love and poverty, the heavy issues of everyday life in Mexico City appear slightly more bearable.
