Thailand's lese-majeste laws -- listed under Article 112 in the country’s criminal code -- forbid anyone from insulting or threatening the royal family. The film "Mr Zero" tells the story of the 70-year-old writer and translator Bandhit Arneeya, who has been charged four times under Article 112, and looks at the implications for all Thai citizens.

Libya, 2011. Amidst the bloody revolution to overthrow the tyrant Moammar Gaddafi, defiant musicians rise up, and strike a chord for freedom. After 42 years of silence, Benghazi suddenly resounds with a melodic fury, with hip-hop, heavy metal, rock, blues, and even country music echoing around the city. "Stronger than Bullets" introduces the musicians who rise, and follows them as they stand shoulder-to-shoulder, guitar to rifle, alongside rebel fighters. But victory soon descends into conflict and chaos, culminating in a civil war that forces the musicians into hiding. The musicians once again must practice in secret, their very right to play being threatened. Yet the fire of hope still fiercely burns within them, because "Strings are stronger than bullets."

This event begins with a screening of Jun Ng's "Tanah Airku," a documentary about Malaysia's Chinese New Villages, a forced relocation site for ethnic Chinese in Malaysia in the 1950s. Afterwards, Ng and fellow Malaysian Zikri Rahman will discuss the events covered in the film and how they relate to the current situation in their home country.
