當大英帝國在 1947 年離開殖民地印度，留下被劃分為穆斯林信仰的巴基斯坦與印度教的印度，區分兩國的界線像是一道薄牆，卻足以撕裂曾經和諧共處的百姓，隨之而來的強制遷徙，讓衝突與不信任感延續至今，失落的鄉愁也漫延至下一代。導演瑪拉·阿玫 (Mara Ahmed) 與製片人蘇比·德萬 (Surbhi Dewan) 分別回溯家族根源，採訪至親好友，回憶童年家屋、人情溫暖與逃亡流離時的可怖；跨過邊境兩側採訪市民對印巴分治的看法，文化、宗教與政治的複雜關係，如何對他們生命產生不可磨滅的影響。不同風格動畫對應相異的家族遷徙記憶，優美文詞透過個人口述，娓娓道出希臘神話般的史詩旅程，美麗憂傷而溫柔。
This film is about memory, history and reconciliation tied to the Partition of India in 1947. Shot on both sides of the border, in India and Pakistan, "A Thin Wall" was made by filmmakers who are descendants of families torn apart by Partition. Original animation, music and literary writing enhance these stories that have been passed down generation to generation.

△ 導演介紹 DIRECTOR
瑪拉·艾玫 Mara Ahmed
出生於巴基斯坦，曾在不同國家居住與求學，從事金融領域工作，直到 2004 年投身創作，現為導演、編劇，亦發表繪畫與攝影作品。首部紀錄片《我所知道的穆斯林》（The Muslims I Know，2008）回應911事件後主流媒體對穆斯林的負面刻劃，文字和影像作品多處理與巴基斯坦有關的主題，設有製片公司 Neelum Films，本片為其第三部紀錄片。
Pakistani-American Mara Ahmed worked as a financial analyst before quitting to become a filmmaker and run her own production company, Neelum Films. Her first documentary, "The Muslims I Know" (2006), was made in response to negative portrayals of Muslims in American mainstream media after 9/11. "A Thin Wall" is Ahmed's third and latest film.
