This profile traces the life of poet Dupan Fangge, who was born in Hsinchu in 1927 during the Japanese colonial period and harbored a life-long need to write. "For me, writing poetry is the biggest release, to take the bitterness and dejection of my heart and write it out. This helps ease that pain," she said. The status of women was a recurring subject in Dupan's work, and in 1992 she won the Chen Xiuxi Poetry prize.
