1951年，沖繩進入美軍佔領時期；1972年，沖繩「復歸祖國」日本。

 

1969年問世的《沖繩列島》，記錄戰後二十多年來沖繩諸島的快速變遷：被基地與刺網圍繞的住宅，B52戰鬥轟炸機飛往越南戰場的呼嘯聲、回收可口可樂廢瓶的玻璃工業、在八重山鳳梨工廠勞動的台灣女工、抗議美軍強佔土地的抗爭者；導演東陽一首部編導的紀錄長片，不僅為美軍佔領時期的沖繩留下重要記錄，更將紀實影像帶入新的實驗敘事，搭配名作曲家松村禎三的配樂，反映了六零年代學生運動浪潮下，年輕創作者以多元形式創作對現實政治的回應。斷片般的黑白影像，是沖繩的日常風景，亦是沖繩現實處境的隱喻，同一片土地上的許多疑問，至今仍未找到答案。

 

本次影展開幕片，從《沖繩列島》為起點，連結台灣、東南亞更大的島嶼政治地景，在聲與影交錯疊置中，重劃島嶼邊界，展開對話。

 

Filmed between August and October of 1968, this documentary offers a unique glimpse of the resistance and opposition to the US occupation in Okinawa. As student movements around the world at the time questioned traditional values and opposed the Vietnam War, director Higashi Yoichi chose to examine Okinawa's predicament, which continues today with the US' continued military presence. Using a hidden camera, Higashi took footage of forbidden military installations, presenting a then-rare critical look at US control of the island. This film, Higashi's first work, is considered a breakthrough document on the issue.
